Mount View Estate Winery Review

John Lewis, wine editor for the Newcastle Herald, profiled Mount View Estate in his Weekender Magazine article for November 19th and 20th, 2011.

The Mount View area is home to some stunning vistas, beautiful vineyards and wineries and distinctive boutique wines - like these from John and Polly Burgess's Mount View Estate.

Mount View Estate 2011 Reserve Semillon, $25   

This is a remarkably well-developed Semillon for the 2011 vintage and would go beautifully with oysters Kilpatrick. It is pale straw and has gooseberry aromas. Smooth preserved lemon flavour glides onto the front ot he palate and lime zest and mineral characters combine with nascent leatherwood honey and toast underlays. Fresh slatey acid features at the finish.

Mount View Estate 2011 V Series Rosé, $19      

Winemaker Phillip Halverson has given this lively Rosé a degree of sweetness that doesn't cloy. The wine is rhubarb red and the nose has jujube and violet scents. Zesty, raspberry flavour comes through on the front of the palate, nuances of toffee apple and spearmint chime in on the middle palate and sweet berry fruit and a touch of flinty acid combine at the finish.

Mount View Estate 2010 V Series Shiraz, $25   

The heat of the 2010 vintage is reflected in the 15 per cent alcohol of this robust Shiraz. It has aromas of glacé cherry and gumleaf litter and brings rich, ripe blood plum flavour to the front palate. Molasses, peppermint chocolate and caper characters meld with savoury oak on the middle palate and dusty tannins home in the finish.
