August 2018 Vineyard Update

Time to put the winter warmers away- Vineyard Update

Well, what a winter it has been! The vineyard staff usually have a well-earned break after vintage but not this year for the team at Mount View. After receiving an exciting decision from the owners in Febuary to go ahead with redeveloping the estate vineyard at Mount View, work got underway in ordering materials and confirming with contractors to being work. it has been a long ,hard winter but the finish line for stage one is finally in sight. And couldn't have come any sooner as the Chardonnay has begun to burst and getting ready for this coming vintage.

A big thank you too all the hard-working hands that made it possible to see stage one to completion!

Stage one Ivolved;

- Removal of existing infrastructure

- Installation of new irrigation infrastructure

- Installation of new steel strainer end assemblies

- Installation of new intermediate posts

- Installation of new trellis wiring

- Conversion from dual cordon trelling to single VSP cane cordon

Mount View Estate is the first vineyard in the Hunter Valley to make the change to an all steel vineyard trellis system. It has been exciting to push the boundaries and challenge the norm.

Transitioning to steel allows us to be using a recyclable, sustainable product with long life in the ground. A decision to use products and materials that are new to the market and industry has again given us the opportunity to push the norm.

With all this said and done there is great anticipation going into the 2018/2019 vintage to see how the changes at Mount View Estate vineyard will perform and possibly increase the quality of the wine we produce.
